The island of Port-Cros
Discovery
If Porquerolles is still too touristy for you, head for Port-Cros, the wildest of the Golden Islands.
A jewel of the Mediterranean
There are no motorised vehicles here, not even bicycles. Port-Cros is the perfect place for forest walks, with 30 km of marked trails lasting from 30 minutes to 7 hours. And for the more courageous, climb to one of the island's highest points to admire the superb panorama over the sea and the mainland. Make sure you bring plenty of water and a picnic, because apart from the village when you arrive by boat, there are no restaurants on the island.
Port Cros is also an underwater paradise. So don't forget to take your mask and snorkel and dive into the emerald waters to discover the seabed. You'll come across many species of fish during your snorkelling session: barracuda, gilthead bream, wolffish, moray eel, grouper, sunfish, as well as marine invertebrates, octopus, anemones, spiders and starfish.
