Still little known by visitors, who are more attracted by the beaches and islands of the region, we recommend that you pop into the town of Hyères during your stay in Salines.
Provence in all its splendour
Perched on a hill and dominated by the ruins of the medieval castle of the Lords of Fos, the old town is well worth a visit. Take a trip back in time to the archaeological site of Olbia, where remains dating back to the 4th century invite you to imagine the thermal baths, shops and alleyways that once made up the island. Take a stroll through the narrow, flower-filled and colourful streets of Hyères, a true snapshot of Provence.
Don't miss a visit to the Château d'Hyères. Dating back to medieval times, it is one of the town's must-sees. Although the remains are not the most impressive, the view from the top of the hill, with the sea in the distance, is splendid.
