A unique summit in the Ardèche
Famous for its astonishing shape and exceptional biodiversity, Mont Gerbier de Jonc is a peak in the Ardèche that rises to an altitude of 1,551 metres. The site was listed in 1933 and has become the region's second most important tourist attraction. This ancient volcano is unusual in that it is shaped like a dome. It is quite possible to climb this mountain, but not without effort and a good level of fitness. But the panorama on arrival is well worth the diversions.
It is also famous for giving life to the longest river in France: the Loire rises at its foot and is crossed by the watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean.
