A captivating ascent to breathtaking panoramas
At 57 metres, the Phare des Baleines is one of the highest lighthouses in France. Once you've climbed the 257 steps, you'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Île de Ré and the inlets. You can also discover the fascinating history of lighthouses and their construction methods at the Whale Museum, located at the foot of the old tower. This old tower was once home to the lighthouse keepers and their families, as well as being used to store the fuel used to make the lighthouse sparkle. You'll also find a number of period objects to take you back to the heart of maritime history.
